If you decide to go cycling or hiking, with or without walking poles, you’ll experience what Pag has to offer in abundance. You will embrace the austere stone of Pag, just as the wind will embrace you.
The ascent to the peak called Kiršina (263 m asl) begins roughly two hundred meters from the historical core of the town of Pag, close to the cemetery. The trail continues through the only wind farm on an island in Croatia.
With exquisite views of the town of Pag, the salt pans, Pag Bay, the island’s highest peak, Sveti Vid (348 m), the Velebit Channel and Velebit itself looming over it, you will savour the peace and quiet of nature in the company of the few solitary sheep seeking patches of vegetation among the rocks, and you will become familiar with the specific plant varieties that resist the most extreme droughts and the most punishing Adriatic bora winds.
Benches and tables have been installed at the top, so that you can completely enjoy the enchanting view of the town built by medieval architect Juraj Dalmatinac, the salt pans, the old town of Pag, the karst landscape, Velo Blato Lake, the Velebit Channel and the Zadar islands. There is also a hunting lodge on the trail.
On this trail, you’ll breathe in Pag’s winds and your view will embrace this enthralling part of the island.
A large number of biking paths has been mapped in Lika area, crossing the Velebit mountain and reaching Podgorje along with Novalja on the island of Pag. Every year their number grows, and so does the interest for cycling in this extraordinary area.
